Climate information & forecasts

Given the need to incorporate climate information into risk reduction and decision-making, the IFRC, Climate Centre and the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) in 2007 started to supply tailored forecasting and monitoring products for Red Cross Red Crescent disaster managers.

This IFRC-IRI map room includes forecasts in context as well as information on possible early action, while the help desk aims to respond within 24 hours to climate-related questions from disaster managers.

Seasonal forecasts for rain and snow worldwide are updated every three months, and there is also background on El Niño and La Niña.

The Climate Centre provides in-depth analysis of the science behind climate change and the assessment reports of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that constitute the best knowledge on climate change, compiled by thousands of the world’s leading scientists.
