(A full account of Pablo’s life and work with the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre will appear in this space shortly.)

The Climate Centre’s much-loved veteran Innovation Lead, Pablo Suarez, has died at Tufts Medical Center in the US city of Boston, where he was airlifted after suffering a sudden brain haemorrhage at his home last week.

Pablo did not regain consciousness and his final loss Tuesday was confirmed by his wife, Janot Mendler de Suarez, herself a Climate Centre team member and researcher who has been at his bedside together with family and friends.

In a message to staff, Climate Centre Director Aditya Bahadur said: “Pablo touched all our lives in incredible ways and his passing will leave a void that will be impossible to fill.

“We at the Climate Centre will continue to work towards realising Pablo’s vision of deploying innovative and effective approaches for ensuring the most vulnerable not only survive but flourish despite climate change.”

Pablo, who was born in Argentina and first connected with the Climate Centre in 2004, championed innovative engagements to communicate and help people understand risk from different perspectives, including serious games, acrobatics, cartoons and art.

A diligent mentor to many, he expanded the boundaries of what is possible for the Red Cross Red Crescent in reducing the impacts of climate change on vulnerable people.
